Bollywood star Yami Gautam has emerged as one of the most versatile and respected actors of her generation. With acclaimed performances in films like Article 370 and A Thursday, she has received multiple Best Actress nominations at top film award shows. Yet, despite the recognition, major wins have not come her way — and Yami says she’s completely fine with that.
‘Awards Don’t Define Talent,’ Says Yami Gautam
While promoting her upcoming courtroom drama Haq, Yami opened up about how she views success, fame, and validation.
When asked if being nominated but never winning affects her, Yami said, “Not at all. As much as I’ve understood from the Bhagavad Gita, what Lord Krishna told Arjun is true. If you can detach from both success and failure, or from seeking validation from others, you’re at peace. I’ve stopped seeking validation from anyone.”
She added, “It’s not that I’m a great actress only if I win an award. That’s not how it works. For me, it’s about staying honest to the craft.”
‘Audience Love Is the Biggest Award’
Yami reflected on her journey since her debut in Vicky Donor (2013). She won several newcomer awards for the film. Yami shared that audience appreciation now means more to her than trophies.
“When people connect with your work, when audiences lift you up — that’s the biggest award,” Yami explained. “Directors and producers trusting me with strong characters is also validation enough. Everything else is temporary. The audience knows what’s real.”
